Your data. Full transparency.
Mutual works without spying on you. Here – with no fine print – is which data the app needs and what for, and which data we deliberately never touch. The legally binding version is our privacy policy (German).
What we collect – and why
Your account
- What
- Email address or phone number, profile name, optional profile picture, an internal user ID
- Why
- Signing in, and your profile next to your songs
- Who sees it
- Profile name and picture: only members of your collections
Collections & tracks
- What
- Collection name, optional photo, time frame; identified tracks with title, artist, cover, time and discoverer; comments and emoji reactions
- Why
- That is the product: your shared list
- Who sees it
- Only the members of that collection – private collections: only you
Music recognition
- What
- An acoustic fingerprint of the short recording – no audio file is stored
- Why
- Song matching via Shazam (Apple)
- Good to know
- The microphone is only active while you deliberately start a recognition
Push notifications
- What
- A technical device token
- Why
- "New track in your collection" alerts
- Control
- Can be turned off anytime in Android settings
Usage statistics only with consent
- What
- Pseudonymous events without any content – see examples below
- Why
- Understanding which features get used, to improve the app
- Control
- Asked on first launch; change anytime under Profile → Privacy settings
Ads & purchases
- What
- Advertising ID (only with consent, free version); for Mutual Pro, purchase receipt data via Google Play
- Why
- Funding the free version, and unlocking Pro
- Good to know
- We never see your payment details – they stay with Google Play
What usage statistics actually look like
Events are counters, not content. Neither your name nor your songs, comments or collection names ever appear in them:
screen_view · recognition_start · recognition_saved · group_create {type: "event"} · group_join · comment_add · reaction_set · spotify_export_start {track_count: 42}
What we deliberately never collect
- No location, no GPS
- No access to your contacts
- No stored audio recordings
- No reading of your songs in the statistics
- No selling data to third parties
- No tracking without your consent
- No cookies on this website
- No photo access beyond what you deliberately pick
You are in control
- Change consent: Profile → "Privacy settings" – anytime, effective immediately.
- Delete content: tracks, comments and collections right in the app.
- Delete everything: Profile → Delete account removes your account and profile.
- Questions: just email hi@mutual.audio.
